Turkey hits PKK targets in northern Iraq, SE Turkey


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Turkish fighter jets hit more targets of the PKK terrorist organization in southeastern Turkey and in northern Iraq on Tuesday, the military said in a statement on Wednesday.

Turkish Armed Forces hit the Zab region of northern Iraq between 10:13 and 10:21 a.m. [0713-0721 GMT], and the Metina region of northern Iraq between 10:00 and 10:11 p.m. [1900-2011 GMT] on Tuesday.

The fighter jets destroyed 15 PKK targets in northern Iraq, including shelters, hideouts, and ammunition dumps, according to the statement.

Separate airstrikes were carried out in the country''s southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir between 4:00 and 4:16 p.m. [1600-1616GMT] and Hakkari between 7.45 and 8.05 p.m. [1945-2005 GMT] on Tuesday.

The fighters jets destroyed 20 PKK targets in southeastern Turkey, including shelters, hideouts, and gun emplacements, Turkish Armed Forces said.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 7,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
