Saudi- Amnesty accuses Zambia of silencing newspaper ahead of elections

Johannesburg, Ramadan 17, 1437, June 22, 2016, SPA -- The closure of one of Zambia''s main independent newspapers is a "ploy to silence the media" ahead of the August election, Amnesty International said Wednesday, according to dpa.
The Post was closed down Tuesday on the grounds that it had more than 4 million dollars in tax arrears.
"If the newspaper owes taxes, necessary arrangements should be made to settle the dispute. Shutting down the newspaper threatens the right to freedom of expression," the rights group said.
