(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW DELHI, June 22 (KUNA) -- At least 100 people were killed and tens of others injured in various parts of India as they were hit by lightening and incidents due to torrential rains for the last 24 hours, local media reported on Wednesday.
Quoting a high level official from the state disaster management department in the north Indian state of Bihar, the Indo Asian News Agency said at least 48 people were killed and scores of others injured in lightening that hit various parts of the state since yesterday evening.
Districts of Rohtas, state capital Patna and Kaimur recorded maximum casualties in Bihar. Death toll in Bihar is expected to go up as the disaster management department in the state said that details of casualties caused by the lightening from the interior parts of the state has not reached yet and to reach at the final toll due to the latest lightening would require more time. The Indo Asian News Agency also reported quoting high level officials in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh that at least 40 people were killed including nine teenage girls and tens of others were injured due to the lightening and torrential rains that hit different parts of the state in the last 24 hours. Ballia district in the state reported the maximum casualties at six followed by Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Mau, Sonbhadra, Azamgarh, Chandauli and Varanasi. Local media also reported that 15 people were killed in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh and seven were killed in the state of Jharkhand situated next to Bihar due to lightening.
