Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations Issues Sixth Annual Report


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Doha, June 21 (QNA) - Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations has issued its sixth annual sixth report.
The report began with a speech by HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that the issuance of the report by the Committee''s Secretariat comes within the framework of its terms of reference contained in the Council of Ministers Decision No. (8) of 2010, which entrusted the Committee with the task of documenting its work and preparing periodical reports on its activities and achievements.
HE noted that the Committee has implemented a range of programs, activities and events, which resulted in many achievements and culminated by preparing the first report of following up the implementation of Qatar plan for the Alliance of Civilizations (2014-2016), reflecting the importance of the efforts exerted by various governmental and non-governmental agencies to highlight the leading role of the State of Qatar in the four areas of the alliance of civilizations, which are education, youth and expats and the media.
He explained that the sixth report highlights a range of activities and programs which were implemented by the Committee in the different areas inside and outside the country during the period from January 2015 until December 2015 in cooperation with various institutions and organizations, pointing out that the report focused on aspects related to Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations, it mission and objectives that it seeks to achieve. The report also provided a brief plan for Qatar Plan for the Alliance of Civilizations (2014-2016) which was prepared based on Qatar National Vision 2030.
The report also reviews the Committee''s most important foreign participations in meetings, forums and conferences organized at the international and regional levels, in addition to the role of the Committee in the field of media awareness in various educational, youth and cultural institutions.
HE said that Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations hopes that the report would reflect the efforts of the State of Qatar within the alliance as a key supporter of the UN Alliance of Civilizations at regional and international levels.
For his part, HE the Vice Chairman of Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations Ambassador Dr. Hassan bin Ibrahim Al Muhannadi underlined that the Committee seeks to promote the goals of the Alliance of Civilizations as a tool of preventive diplomacy power, through cooperation with all actors at the regional and international levels.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency, he said that the report contains five chapters, the first chapter introduces Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations and its inception under the Council of Ministers Resolution No. (8) of 2010.
The chapter also addresses the Committee''s message of strengthening the role of the State of Qatar in highlighting the contributions of Islamic civilization along with other civilizations in human progress, and its role in promoting dialogue and resolving conflicts and disputes besides emphasizing the values of tolerance, solidarity and peace among peoples and the fight against extremism and intolerance.
The chapter also includes the Committee''s vision for a closer cooperation between races, religions and cultures, and for establishing the values of solidarity and the exchange of expertise and benefits between peoples on the basis of truth, justice and equality and in order to achieve the noble goals of all humanity.
HE Ambassador Hassan bin Ibrahim Al Muhannadi reviewed the tasks of Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations as outlined in the first chapter of the report, including overseeing the development of the State''s working plan for the Alliance of Civilizations, follow up the state''s contributions to the Alliance of Civilizations, supervising the existing and proposed state projects in this context and follow up public awareness programs. Regarding Qatar''s plan for the Alliance of Civilizations as outlined in the second chapter of the report, he explained that the Committee has developed Qatar''s in this area for the period (2014-2016), which kept pace with the second generation of national plans for the Alliance of Civilizations. He said that the Plan was based on the basic premises of the directives of the political leadership and the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar, Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy (2011-2016), as well as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Plan for the Alliance of Civilizations (2012-2014). He pointed out that the plan aims at achieving understanding between nations and peoples, establishing strong relations between nations and removing the causes of division and misunderstanding; in order to achieve the main objective which is peaceful coexistence and acceptance of others. He added that the plan also included the implemented Qatari initiatives in the field of the Alliance of Civilizations during the past period, which were carried out by several institutions and organs, noting that Qatar''s plan for the Alliance of Civilizations for the period (2014-2016) includes the implementation of several programs and activities aimed at achieving the goals of the alliance of civilizations in the four main fields. The third chapter of the report deals with the Committee''s participations in conferences, meetings and forums, while the fourth Chapter includes the events organized in cooperation with international organizations and Arab and regional bodies.
