Car bomb kills 6 Jordanian soldiers near Syria border


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) At least six Jordanian soldiers were killed and 14 others injured in a car bomb attack near border with war-torn Syria on Tuesday.

The Jordanian army said in a statement that the bombing struck near a military checkpoint in al-Rukban district near border with Syria.

The statement described the bombing as a “cowardly act”, vowing to pursue the kingdom’s fight against terrorism.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.

The Jordanian television reported that the bombing took place at 5:30 local time near a Syrian refugee camp close to the country''s border with Syria.

According to the television, the Jordanian army has launched a manhunt for the attackers and destroyed a number of their vehicles, giving no further details.

Jordan shares a 375-km porous border with war-torn Syria, interspersed with informal crossings used by Syrian refugees.

Meanwhile, Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood group condemned the attacks against Jordanian soldiers.

In a statement, the group described the attack as a “criminal act”, going on to reiterate its support for the Jordanian army and offered condolences to the Jordanian people and families of the victims.

The Muslim Brotherhood was declared illegal by Jordanian authorities after a group of defectors registered a new Muslim Brotherhood Society as a Jordanian entity.
