King Mohammed VI Made Bold Choice to Modernize Islam: Jeune Afrique

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) King Mohammed VI made the bold choice to modernize Islam by relying on the commandership of the Faithful, wrote weekly “Jeune Afrique” in its latest issue.

This choice is reflected notably in the increase of 100% over ten years of the budget for religious services, the training of Imams (religious leaders) and ulema (religious scholars) and the restructuring of traditional religious education, it said.

It was also mirrored in the setting up of the Institute of Imams Training and the Foundation for African Ulema which focus on spreading the malekite rite south of the Sahara, said the weekly.

The magazine noted that King Mohammed VI accelerated the legislative and administrative renovation of the high council for ulema which is tasked with giving fatwas (religious rulings) and interpreting sacred texts.

This body has the mission of deconstructing the poisoned discourses spread by ISIS and Al Qaeda ideologists using Islamic vocabulary key words as jihad and salafiya, it added.
