Qatar- Ashghal opens new bridge on east corridor from Najma street

Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) opened Najma Street Extension to traffic, in addition to a new bridge crossing the East Corridor along Najma Street, as part of the East Corridor project currently implemented by Ashghal under its Expressway Program.
Najma Street Extension will connect the F-Ring Road to Al Wakra Main Road, improving connectivity between Al Thumama and the Old Airport area to the south of Qatar.
Following this opening, road users can now travel to and from central Doha and Al Wakra without the need to access Al Matar Street or Ras Abu Aboud Road, in addition to benefiting from reduced congestion and shorter transit times in the south of Doha.
Najma Street Extension is 2.4 kilometers in length, and includes three lanes in each direction. The new bridge is more than 117 meters long, and over 10 meters high, and is located at the intersection between East-West Corridor and Najma Street Extension. The speed limit will be 80 kph along the Extension of Najma Street.
Najma Street Bridge is part of the East Corridor project which is the Eastern section of the East-West Corridor, one of the most prominent project implemented by the Public Works Authority under its Expressway Program.
The East-West Corridor comprises the construction of 22 km of a new dual carriageway, including five lanes in each direction stretching from west of Barwa City, to Al Matar Street south of the Air Force Roundabout. The project includes eight grade-separated interchanges that will provide new access to key roads and residential areas such as Al Matar Street, Najma Street Extension, Barwa Access Road, and Al Wakra Bypass.
Covering infrastructure improvements in the area, the project will include the upgrade and relocation of utilities, installation of an Intelligent Transport System and storm water drainage. It is worth mentioning that the project will see the installation of 2,842 meters of drainage lines, and more than 140,000 meters of irrigation lines across the project area. New and improved pedestrian pathways and cycle paths will be provided, as well as more than 6,000 street lights that will be installed across the East-West Corridor.
The project will contribute to providing strategic roads to link Hamad International Airport to residential areas in Barwa Village, Al Wakra, and the Industrial Area, in addition to other key Expressway Program projects, such as the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route.
