Turkey puts hope in taxes to lift economy

(MENAFN) Turkey anticipates receiving nearly USD1.2 billion of income from recent tax hikes in alcohol, cigarettes and mobile phones, and hikes in bridge and highway tolls.

Additionally, tourism sector is arguably the largest contributor to the state's income; hence it has been ranked as the 6th most popular tourism destination in the world.

Electricity's revenue has also supported the nation's overall income as electricity prices grew by 6.8 percent as of Jan. 1, just two days after the minimum wage saw a 30pct rise.

Furthermore, the country also expects a hefty USD100.8 million of revenue from the hike in bridge and highway tolls to the state budget, as revealed by a state official.
