Qatar PPCR Site Centre opens to enhance global clinical research


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: The Ministry of Public Health has opened Qatar PPCR Site Centre to provide an interactive learning environment for training and clinical research and establish a global network of researchers to promote cooperation in clinical research.

The centre, the first in the Arab region, will facilitate participation in ‘Principles and Practice Clinical Research (PPCR)’ in collaboration with Harvard University in Boston.

A lecture delivered by Prof. Felipe Fregni, Main Developer and Founder of PPCR in Harvard, was broadcasted live via the centre from the Training Hall in the Ministry of Public Health to Harvard University and the world, in the presence of ministry representatives and officials of medical research departments at Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Hamad Bin Khalifa University doctors and medical researchers.

Samar Hussein Muad, Director, Human Resources Department at the Ministry, said the PPCR programme is a scientific training initiative, where participants and their colleagues from 130 countries around the world watch live broadcasts via electronic communication with Harvard University simultaneously.

The participants must attend three hours of interactive video conference a week, she said, adding sessions from Harvard University will be broadcast to different centres around the world.

The programme includes a five-day workshop, and participants must read articles and do full statistics exercises at the end of the programme, which lasts nine months. All participants will meet in one place to display their research and to graduate.
