Rabat -King Mohammed V, the father of modern Morocco, died on 10 of Ramadan 1380 hegira (26 February 1961), only a few years after the Kingdom declared its independence after a long and a fierce fight against colonialism. Today, Morocco commemorates the 57th anniversary of the death of the late Mohammed V, the hero of liberation.

King Mohammed V had devoted his life to succeed at the ultimate mission: the recovery of the full independence of his country. He made ??many sacrifices for his people’s freedom and dignity, including going through exile, which he was forced into along with the Royal Family by the colonial authorities.

Moroccans underwent a long march towards the country’s liberation and conducted a battle that they approached on all fronts in tight symbiosis. They were led by the liberator of the nation, a sovereign whose reign was closely linked to the fight for national independence and the exercise of sovereignty and freedom for Moroccan people.

Throughout his fight against colonialism, the late Mohammed V worked in constant consultation with the national movement and voices of the people.

The strong activism of Moroccan people promoting his return from exile unlocked the way for the triumphant return of the sovereign to the country, where he announced the end of the Protectorate to millions of Moroccans.

Mohammed V was also considered as a first order African leader, a symbol of anti- colonialism and anti-racism, calling for unity, independence and peace in the world.
