ASX clings to gains in late afternoon trade

Global bourses generally had a week to forget, take the Aussie Market.

A week ago the ASX All Ordinaries was at 5437, and in late afternoon-trade today, its 5227. That''s a 4% drop.

Volatility might be high again next week as the Brits decide if they want to remain in the European Union, but that gold provide an opportunity for gold bugs.


BLUE CHIP ROUND UP LATE IN SESSION

Major miners

BHP Billiton (ASX:BHP) up 0.9% to $18.06; Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG) up 2.0% to $3.22; Newcrest (ASX:NCM) down 0.4% to $22.45; Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) up 0.9% to $43.40.


Energy or Oil and Gas

Oil Search (ASX:OSH) down 1.1% to $6.59; Santos (ASX:STO) up 0.2% to $4.26; Woodside Petroleum (ASX:WPL) down 0.5% to $25.84.


Big 4 banks

ANZ Bank (ASX:ANZ) up 0.8% to $23.25; Commonwealth Bank (ASX:CBA) up 0.6% to $72.27; National Australia Bank (ASX:NAB) up 0.6% to $24.93; Westpac (ASX:WBC) up 0.9% to $28.65.
