Clash leaves 3 soldiers, 4 rebels dead in W. Afghanistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, June 16 (KUNA) -- At least three Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and four insurgents were killed during an hours-long clash in Afghanistan''s western Ghor province, said official on Thursday.
The provincial governor''s spokesman, Abdul Hai Khatibi told media that the clash erupted after Taliban insurgents, led by a notorious Taliban governor, stormed a security check post located one kilometer from Pasaband district''s market and took control of it but the post was later retaken from the Taliban.
He confirmed that three ANA soldiers were killed and a fourth was missing in the attack.
Ghor police chief, Brig. Gen. Mustafa Mohseni also confirmed the clash saying that four insurgents were killed and another six were wounded during the clash.
The clash came on the day when at least 15 Afghan security personnel have been killed and four others wounded in an attack on a check post in Afghanistan''s southern Kandahar province.
No group has so far claimed responsibility of the attack but Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan following the launch of their warm weather offensive against the foreign and local security forces. (end) sbk.ibi
