At one point in his life Peek was ranked as the fourth best basketball player in the nation. His achievement was based upon his hard work and drive as he spent endless days and nights honing his skills and striving to be the best. That hard work seemed to have been paying off and he thought that he was headed to his goal of playing in the NBA. But as what sometimes happens in life he fell just short of reaching his dream. He was almost there he was so close and then it was all taken away from him. Peek remembers when that happened just like it was yesterday the Assistant Head Coach of the University of Louisville Scooter McCray calling to tell him that due to NCAA taking away Prop 48 (Prop 48 meant Peek could join the college and that he would get an academic red shirt year since he could not pass the SAT but he had to sit out a year and then he would be eligible to play the following season.) Without Prop 48 Peek was ineligible for Division One basketball and he went into the junior college black hole where ultimately he emerged out to his downfallSouth Dakota State University.

Then out of the blue it seems that his dream had turned into a nightmare. He wasnt a superstar basketball player anymore overnight he was a has been before he ever was. During that time that Peek sunk into depression he was homeless and profoundly lost. He found himself home before his family and peers without any college degrees unable to find a job with a baby boy who needed to eat and turning to a life of selling drugs in order to keep his family alive. Then one day someone came into his life and saw something in him that either he didnt know or forgotten he had. Peek had been raised by an abusive mother, an absentee father and enrolled in severe behavioral handicap classes the NBA was his only way out or so he thought. Funny, how God changed his life so instantly. This person truly believed that if people put it out in the atmosphere and do the work they can achieve almost anything. Peek wasnt a believer then but life has shown him otherwise. Here he is a former SBH student with an Associate Degree, a Bachelors Degree, and a Masters Degree. Buy the book to find out how Peek was able to turn his life around and how his journey can help others. The book is available at Amazon.com.

I am not an NBA player, I am not famous, but what I have learned from living through the Peeks and Valleys is the effectiveness of standing back up on my feet and knowing that I am somebody. Mike Peek
