Green Industry Conference on Sustainable Cities to be held in Korea


(MENAFN- KNN India) United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is all set to host the fourth Green Industry Conference (GIC) from 28 to 30 June 2016, in Ulsan, Republic of Korea titled “Green Industry for Sustainable Cities” (GIC).

Around 300 participants from different nations including high-level government officials, representatives of the private sector, industry associations, academia and civil society are expected to take part in the event. Rakesh Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Jaipur Municipal Corporation is also one of the participants at the conference.

Kiran Ananth, Senior Counsellor, Confederation of Indian Industry would also be one of the speakers at the event.

The Conference would be jointly organized by the Korean Government and UNIDO and would explore the interdependence between industry and cities in context of resource efficiency, green technology and eco-innovation, as per the news.

A special feature of the GIC would be field visits to state-of-the-art manufacturing sites in the city of Ulsan, the industrial powerhouse of Korea and a model for eco-industrial parks.

The key topics of discussion would be Green industry for sustainable cities; Korean green strategy in urban industrial areas and low-carbon transport and energy for sustainable cities.

During the Conference, discussion would be held on ‘Green Industry for Sustainable Cities’.

The panel will review experiences from industrialized and developing countries, linking the new industrialization paradigm to the megatrend on urban development. The discussions will focus on the preconditions for cities in developing countries to grow sustainably and become competitive hubs for innovative and green manufacturing.

Further discussions would ensue on ‘Low-carbon transport and energy for Sustainable Cities’ focusing on the role of industry and the private sector in enhancing urban sustainability, particularly in the areas of transport and energy. The session will also look at integrated strategies − encompassing the urban, industry, transport and energy sectors − aimed at fostering low-carbon transport and energy.
