DOHA: Three public parks in Al Shamal will soon get solar-powered stations for charging mobile phones.

Shaded areas with solar-powered lights will also be established on two beaches in the area.

The project is part of Al Shamal Municipality’s environment conservation efforts and sustainability development initiatives. It includes installation of 10 solar charging stations in Al Ruwais, Ain Sinan and Abu Dhalouf public parks and setting up 34 shaded areas with solar lights in Abu Dhalouf and Al Ruwais beaches.

The solar-powered mobile charging station is called ‘Solar Multi-Function Charging Tree’ and each of the 10 stations will have two light poles to provide eight hours of continuous lighting.

Ras Laffan Industrial City’s Community Outreach Programme (RLIC-COP) has extended support to the municipality for installing solar-powered charging stations for mobile phones in the three public parks.

Qatargas is managing the project on behalf of RLIC-COP.

Azzam Abdul Aziz Al Mannai, Public Relations Manager, Qatargas, said, “The RLIC-COP is proud to support the municipality in offering this new service to northern community residents. Representing the energy industry in Qatar, we are supportive of developing and utilising alternative energy solutions.”

RLIC-COP was established by seven leading energy companies operating in Ras Laffan Industrial City — Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, RasGas, Al Khaleej Gas, Dolphin Energy, Pearl GTL, and Oryx GTL.

Hamad Juma Jassim Al Mannai, Director of the municipality, said, “I would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to RLIC-COP for its support to this unique initiative of the municipality which stems from our commitment to develop sustainable solutions by utilising solar energy as a renewable and clean source of energy. “RLIC-COP, as part of its corporate social responsibility strategy, is playing an important role in supporting the local community to undertake sustainable initiatives across various spectrums. By undertaking such projects, the municipality is striving to accomplish the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which places high emphasis on sustainability in the country’s march towards progress and development. We look forward to partnering with RLIC-COP for accomplishing more such projects.”
