UAE- Drunk man's wish to be deported 'fulfilled'

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A man, who called the Dubai police operations room and threatened to blow up his accommodation building unless he got deported, has eventually got what he wanted as he was sentenced on Monday to three months in jail to be followed by deportation.

The 25-year-old Kenyan was drunk when he made the call on April 17. "Yes I did that," the accused earlier admitted in the Court of First Instance.

Prosecutors accused him of making criminal threat, blackmail and consuming alcohol without a licence. He had been overstaying on an expired visit visa.

The court fined him Dh2,000 for consuming alcohol without a licence.

His mobile phone has been confiscated as per the court''s ruling.

"We learnt from the Dubai police operation room about a threatening call made by a man on April 17. The man had phoned the police at 5pm and threatened to blow up a building in Naif if he was not deported back home," a policeman said.

The police learnt the number was registered in the defendant''s name. "We learnt he arrived here on October 18, 2015 and worked as a security guard".

The defendant''s details also showed that he had been residing illegally and staying in the company''s accommodation in Al Muhaisnah.

Around 8pm the same day, the police arrested the accused near his place.

"We seized his phone and took him into custody. He voluntarily admitted that he called the police and made the threat claiming he was unemployed and wanted to go back to his home country by any means."
