UAE- 109 bicycles confiscated for 'causing chaos'

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Ajman Police have confiscated 109 bicycles after the riders were found "endangering the lives of people and causing chaos on the emirate''s roads". The action came as part of an inspection and awareness campaign that targets bicycle riders.

The police instructed the riders to wear the protective phosphoric jackets while riding, for their safety.

Major Saif Al Falasi, director of traffic and patrol at Ajman Police, said the campaign is aimed at ensuring peace and safety for residents and to reduce accidents.

He pointed out that bicycles caused six serious accidents since the beginning of the year. These accidents resulted in death and serious injuries.

The seized bicycles were mostly used by delivery men at restaurants "who don''t bother following safety procedures such as wearing helmets and phosphoric jackets".
