Indian embassy asks its citizens to stay on guard against fraudsters

The Indian Embassy in Muscat has asked its citizens to stay on guard against fraudsters posing as its officials.

In a statement, it said, ''It has come to our notice that there have been instances of fraud calls by some unknown person posing as an embassy official.

''The callers ask Indians to pay fines, deposit money threatening that their applications to correct the wrong date of birth, passport, labour card, visas and immigration process will not be accepted unless they deposit the demanded amount.''

The embassy has advised all Indian citizens to avoid responding to such calls. ''Please do not pay any money on the advice of fraudulent callers. The Embassy of India does not make such calls. If any Indian citizen receives such calls, he/she should immediately inform us at 24684517 or write to .''
