Qatar- North Korea Could Have Resumed Reprocessing Plutonium


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Vienna , June 07 (QNA) - The International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) said that North Korea could have resumed reprocessing spent fuel rods to produce plutonium.

In a media conference in Vienna on Monday, the IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano revealed the suspicion."We have found indications of certain activities through satellite imagery." South Korean (KBS World Radio) reported."It is deeply regrettable that the DPRK has shown no indication that it is willing to comply with security council resolutions..."

The watch dog head added that he does not have inspectors on the ground to provide anything more definite. But, he pointed to movements of vehicles and steam coming out of the North's nuclear site in Yongbyon where its five megawatt reactor is located.
The IAEA has been monitoring the Yongbyon nuclear facility through satellite imageries since the North expelled nuclear inspectors in 2009. (QNA)
