Senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard among Syria deaths

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Three members of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards have been killed in Syria’s Aleppo province, Iranian media reported Monday.

The trio included Col. Reze Rustemi Mukaddem, who the Tasnim news agency said had served during the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s. Two other soldiers of unknown rank were also named.

Last month, a senior commander acknowledged that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had suffered 1,200 soldiers killed during its four-year deployment in Syria in support of Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

Since the war broke out in 2011, 470,000 Syrians have been killed according to the Syrian Center for Policy Research. Iran supports the regime alongside Lebanese Hezbollah fighters and Russia.
