Turkish army operations kill 7 islamic state militants in Syria
ANKARA: A total of seven Islamic State militants were killed in northern Syria in an operation by Turkish Armed Forces and the U.S.-led coalition on Sunday, according to military sources.
Speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak with the media, the sources said Monday that the artillery and airstrikes had targeted IS sites after the Turkish military said it had detected signs of imminent attacks against Turkey.
The sources said that weapon systems belonging to IS were destroyed with howitzers and multiple-rocket launchers.
Since mid-January, IS have been targeting towns and cities in southern Turkey with indiscriminate rocket fire, resulting in several civilian deaths and injuries.
