Chinese Pres. urges closer ties with US

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, June 6 (KUNA) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday urged closer ties with the United States to deepen mutual trust and cooperation at a bilateral level, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the joint China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue and the China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange in Beijing, Xi said all countries share common interests against the backdrop of multi-polarization, economic globalization and social information.

"China and the US should strengthen their mutual trust by regular communication in order to avoid strategic misjudgment," he was quoted as saying.

"Both nations should also deepen cooperation in the areas of climate change, development, internet, nonproliferation, military and law enforcement," he noted, calling on both countries to " enhance communication and coordination on major global and regional issues." Senior Chinese and US officials, including US Secretary of State John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, are set to convene for the two-day annual event that encompasses the wide scope of bilateral ties.

The strategic dialogue will cover such topics as enhancing ties with major countries, ways to sort out differences and collective ties with the Asia-Pacific region. The consultation meeting aims to promote institutionalized cooperation between schools and think tanks, explore new joint medical models and to bolster interaction with the third world in the healthcare sector.
