(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: The Arab Network for National Human Rights and Arab Human Right Committee (Charter Committee) have signed a memorandum of understanding at Arab League headquarter in Cairo.
The ceremony took place on the sidelines of the ‘Arab Mechanisms for Human Rights and Enhancement of National Security’ conference.
Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, Chairman, Qatar National Human Rights Committee (QNHRC), and Dr. Hadi bin Ali Al Yami, Chairman, Arab Human Rights Committee, signed the agreement.
Arab region is facing civil wars, political and economical crisis and terrorism and these collectively impos challenges on the ground, said Dr. Al Marri, adding coordinated efforts are needed to protect human rights and basic freedom of people.
He highlighted the importance of security and stability which are basic requirements for protecting human rights and maintaining security and stability and the need for respecting human rights.
“The major aim of national human rights committees is to protect human rights and basic freedoms.
“To achieve this, we are keen to cooperate with all actors in the Arab region, including Arab Network. The agreement aims at enhancing cooperation, exchanging experiences, best practices and building capacity of the national human right institutions,” he added.
Both sides agreed to organise trainng workshop in November, build the capacity of the employees of Arab national human rights institutions and train them on how to prepare reports and track human right situations.
The signing of the MoU is a result of common vision and agreement of the network and the committee on many aspects which ease unification of efforts and exchange of experiences and cooperation in field works.
Dr. Hadi said the Arab network represents the legal and institutional framework for Arab national human rights committees with which the committee shares common goals.
The Arab Committee plans to expand its approaches in collaboration with other Arab entities, Dr Hadi added.
