Village guard killed in PKK attack in Turkey's southeast


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) One village guard was killed on June 5 in an outlawedKurdistan Workers’ Party(PKK) attack in the southeastern province of rnak.
PKK militants attacked the Yeniaslanbaar Gendarmerie Post on the Eruh Highway early on June 5 with long-barreled weapons. An armed clash erupted between soldiers and the fleeing militants.

One village guard was heavily wounded during the clashes and transferred to rnak Military Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, onePKKmilitant was killed in the clashes.

The Turkish General Staff said sevenPKKmilitants were killed and another surrendered to security forces on June 4 in rnak.

According to a statement by the General Staff, a total of 499PKKmilitants have been killed in operations in rnak as security forces took full control of the city center.

Security operations ended in rnak and the Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin on June 3.

However, security personnel are still conducting searches in the province to locate and destroy hand-made explosives placed by the militants.
