The annual ban prevents labourers from carrying out any work under direct sunlight between 12:30pm and 3pm throughout the three-month period.

Major-General Obaid Mohair bin Surour, Chairman of the PCLA , said that the committee will follow up on the implementation of the preventive measures to protect outdoor workers from the summer heat.

A team has been set by the committee to enforce the midday break rules. He said construction workers are an important assets in building the country and it is very important to protect them and care for them.

Maj-Gen Bin Surour said the inspection team of the PCLA is not meant only to detect violations, but to guide and educate workers and companies to avoid violations of the midday break.

He added that the PCLA is keen to educate workers on the dangers of working under the sun and how to protect themselves against the summer heat.

"This week, we began distributing booklets in several languages in order to raise awareness about the advantages of implementing the midday break," he said.

According to Maher Al Obad, Ministry of HR and Emiratisation's Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs that a fine of Dh5,000 per worker with maximum of Dh50,000 will be imposed on companies violating the midday break rule beginning on June 15, the midday break rule will end after three months on September 15.

Abdul Momen Al Medawi, Coordinator of the PCLA, said field visits will be conducted on a daily basis to inspect companies to ensure that the midday break rules are enforced in Dubai.

According to Essa Al Zarouni, Director of Inspection at the ministry that the number of violations for the midday break ban has been reduced to the minimum and that most of the violation took place due to the ignorance of the workers themselves.

As part of the awareness campaign that will last for 15 days before starting the inspection campaign, last week the team of the PCLA met with more than 500 workers to explain to them about the important of adhering to the midday break rules. Awareness booklets, juice and yogurt were distributed to the workers during the event.
