British High Commissioner, Paul Arkwright yesterday wrapped up his first ever visit to Ogun State in southwest Nigeria. Some highlights of the two day visit which commenced on Wednesday June 1 included calls on Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo. On his first day in the state, the High commissioner in company of former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku paid a condolence visit to the Adebo family over the passing of their Matriarch Mrs. Regina Abimbola Adebo who died in May, ten days to her 95th birthday. He then proceeded to the Commonwealth War Grave at Alamata Barracks Abeokuta to pay his respects to fallen Commonwealth soldiers. At a meeting with Governor Amosun yesterday, the High Commissioner assured of UK support to the state saying the British Government is working on how to further advance its business interests in Nigeria and boost trade relationship by supporting both the federal and state governments. Moments later discussions with former President Obasanjo focused on UK support to the Government of Nigeria. There was another stop at the palace of His Royal Highness, the Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo where the High Commissioner received some education on the rich Yoruba culture, and got the opportunity to flip through the pages of a bible presented to a former Alake in 1904 by George VII . The High Commissioner was accompanied on his visits by former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku and Head of the Political Section at the British High Commission, Ben Llewellyn Jones.
