Directed by Dr. Dana Celeste Robinson, the documentary is produced by Knox Robinson Films. The red carpet theatrical premiere was held at The Plaza Theatre in Atlanta on May 14,2016.
June 3, 2016 (Atlanta, Georgia) Dr. Dana Celeste Robinson, founder of Knox Robinson Holdings and the Knox Robinson family of companies, which began with Knox Robinson Publishing in London in 2010, has formally launched her latest venture, Knox Robinson Films, with the red carpet theatrical release of In Search of Doc Holliday in Atlanta, Georgia.
The red carpet premiere was held at The Plaza Theatre on May 14, 2016. The Plaza Theatre is Atlantas oldest operating independent cinema, dating back to 1939.
When Robinson first entertained launching a film production company in 2012, she remarked, As a little girl, I loved watching the History Channel and its historical documentaries. Those television programs, coupled with the wealth of non-fiction and fiction books available at my local library, nurtured my love of history.
Robinson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Clemson University and two masters and a PhD in medieval studies from Royal Holloway, University of London. She served as the director and producer of the documentary.
In Search of Doc Holliday is a 75 minute-long investigation into the life and times of Doc Holliday. In 1881, John Henry ''Doc'' Holliday rose to infamy at the famous gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. When asked why she chose this historical figure for the first feature-length documentary produced by Knox Robinson Films, Robinson said, It was an easy choice. Tombstone is one of my favorite movies and really set the standard for Westerns in the 90s. In 2013, Knox Robinson Publishing released the first book in a trilogy on Doc Holliday entitled Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday by the author, Victoria Wilcox. The research was there, the interest was there, there wasnt a worthy documentary out about him and so much of his life was obscured by his legend. I wanted to get to the truth of it.
The documentary traces Holliday''s roots from his life in Georgia during the Civil War and Reconstruction, to dental school in Philadelphia, and onwards to the Wild West and the final years of his short life, he died at the age of thirty-six from tuberculosis.
Ultimately, it is truly a story of the effects of the American Civil War on one particular family in the south, it indirectly tore the family apart, with Doc Holliday fleeing west to escape the demons that were chasing him. We try to identify those demons and how they shaped the man he became, Robinson said.
The documentary has an original score created by composer James F. Hagood, Jr and other songs by musicians and singers. The soundtrack is produced by Nelson Hagood on the Doogah Music label. The title track, Southern Son by the artist John Omen, with its steady country and western vibe and pulsing rock chords, has sold well on iTunes leading up to the June 2, 2016 release of the documentary.
When asked if there are more documentaries in store for Knox Robinson Films, she answered quickly, Definitely. Weve already begun researching the next two documentaries and hope to release them consecutively in 2017 and 2018, respectively. When pressed to reveal the subject matter of the upcoming documentaries, she demurred and smiled, Youll have to wait and see.
