MOSCOW, 2nd June, 2016 (WAM) - Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, said the current visit to Moscow by Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), underscores the close and ever-growing ties and co-operation between the UAE and Russia.

The Russian premier said during his talks with Al Qubaisi that he expected the ties to see broader co-operation in diverse areas of trade and investment, and added that Abu Dhabi and Moscow would strengthen their joint co-ordination in regards to important national and international issues and other developments of mutual concern.

He indicated that consensus between leaderships and governments of the two countries regarding different issues would create promising opportunities for greater joint co-operation.

Al Qubaisi said Russian President Vladimir Putin and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, share common views and stance towards a wide range of regional and international issues which were reflected by HH's recent trips to Moscow.

Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council, the Upper house of Russia's parliament, and Omar Saif Gobash, UAE Ambassador to Moscow, attended the meeting.

Al Qubaisi said the UAE and Russian leaderships share common a vision for supporting political ties, chiefly issues of top priority, and stressed the need for Russia's support to efforts being made with regional and international actors to reach peaceful solutions to challenges in the region, particularly the Syrian crisis and the Palestinian cause.

''We are looking forward to a bigger role by Russia in the Yemeni issue,'' she said, noting that the UAE is member in the Arab Coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen and the Islamic Alliance.

''The UAE's core principle is to bring about security and stability, restore legitimacy and stop Iran's interference and the Houthis' threat to Yemen's stability,'' she stressed.

Speaking about the latest developments in the region including terrorism, Al Qubaisi said, ''We reject hijacking of Islam by terrorist groups and the insult to tolerance of Islam.'' She said the UAE was looking forward to furthering its co-operation with Russia in areas of education, culture and exchange of scholarships to immunise youths against extremist ideology that leads to terrorism.
