UAE- Life in jail for Bani Yas ambush gunmen
(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation made its final decision in the famous "Bani Yas ambush" case, where two men (F A and M K) from the GCC were accused of drug trafficking, as well as attempting to murder policemen during the ambush.
The court made its final decision to sentence both defendants to life in prison, as well as fine both men for the attempting to murder by shooting a policeman during the undercover drugs sting. Both men were fined Dh100,000 each, while the first defendant received another fine of Dh143,000, and the second received Dh40,000. The details of the case revealed that prior to the ambush, which caused an injury to two on duty policemen, including permanent disability, one of the accused attempted to sell 20kg of hashish to an undercover police officer. However, during the police officers' attempt to arrest the suspects, both men violently resisted and one shot a policeman. One of the suspects at the time (F A), was however arrested on the scene. The second suspect on the other hand (M K), fled the scene and attempted to flee to Yemen from the Al Madam area. Police however caught the suspect in record time and arrested him. The duo was earlier given death sentences for attempting to murder policemen during the undercover drugs sting, but their sentences was commuted to life in prison, as well as fines for the permanent damages caused to the policemen.
