Surabhi Salian won the girls' U13 title at the annual table tennis tournament, organised by the Indian Social Club, recently. In the final, Surabhi defeated Alina Desai 11-8, 11-8, 13-11, 11-6. Meanwhile, top-seeded M V Saiprem and second-seeded Shounak Kelkar set up a summit clash in the boys' U15 event. Saiprem defeated fourthseeded Allan Thiyagaseelan 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 while Shounak beat third-seeded Sanskar Dubey 16-18, 11-5, 11-7, 11-1, 11-7. Also, in the men's A singles, second-seeded Armaan Sattikar booked a spot in the final with a victory over No 3 seed Simon Joseph in the semifinal. Sattikar won the match 12-10, 9-11, 3-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8 and awaits the winner of the other semifinal between No 1 seed Subash Pillai and No 4 seed Yash Tanna. Subash defeated Shounak 11- 5, 11-6, 9-11, 11-9 while Yash outplayed Karan Negi 11-7, 12-10, 11-5 in their respective last-eight matches. Other results: Junior doubles (first round, round-robin): Shounak-Prakhar Pateria beat Vedant Bahirat-Shivam 11-9, 11-4, 11-2; Surabhi-Anirudh beat Shwetha-Dimple 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-2; Siddhartha-Madhav Vinod beat Paran-Rubesh 11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9; Sanskar-Allan beat Siddhartha-Madhav Vinod 6-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8. ____ NMC Cup cricket to be held next month The seventh edition of NMC Cup floodlit cricket tournament, organised by Oman Indo-Pak Friends, will be held during the holy month of Ramadan at the Al Rifa ground in Azaiba. Sixteen teams will contest for the NMC Cup, which will also be played on knock-out format. The draw will be held on June 13. The winning team will receive US$800 (RO 307 approx) while the runner-up side will take home US$400 (RO 153 approx). The organisers will also organise the NMC Independence Cup knock-out tournament for eight teams. The draw of the Independence Cup will be held on June 9.
