Morocco- Police Deny Abduction of Moroccan Shia Leader Abdou Chougrani

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The National Police (DGSN) denied on Monday that the individual named Abdou Chougrani was kidnapped, saying that his arrest was conducted according to a court’s order for his alleged involvement in a case of money embezzlement, and that the procedures of arrest, interrogation and custody were supervised by the competent public prosecutor.

The police recalled that a statement by the so-called “Al Rissalioun al Taqadoumiyoun” wrote about the kidnapping of Abdou Chougrani by some people pretending to belong to Fez security services and called upon authorities to shed light or open a probe on the case.

In order to provide clarifications for the public opinion and rectify wrong facts included in the statement, the police assure, in a press release, that the Meknes police services have apprehended the said man, last Thursday, after a wanted description was issued nationally for his arrest on May 13 for alleged implication in a case of money embezzlement.

The accused was handed to the police of the city of Taounate, the competent security authority, to complete the investigation and bring him on May 30 to Fez appeal court (department of financial crimes), it said.
