SHARJAH, 30th May, 2016 (WAM) -- H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, met on Sunday with a delegation of Mauritanian poets, in his office at the Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies.

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan welcomed the poets to the Emirate of Sharjah, which, he said, looks at Arabic poetry as one of the most important elements that reflect the Arab identity, values and history through a poetic literary style.

The Ruler of Sharjah pointed out that the Republic of Mauritania plays a significant role in preserving the Arabic language and its rich linguistic terminology through Mauritanian tribes that maintain the use of Arabic in spite of the various phenomena and changes in the region. He also talked about Mauritanian arts and culture, stressing the importance for civilisations and cultures to converge, enabling people in both the east and west to benefit from exchanged experiences.

The meeting was attended by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, and Rashid Sharar, Director of the Sharjah Nabati Poetry Centre.

The poets extended their sincere thanks and gratitude to H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah for his continuous support and keen interest in preserving Arab culture.
