(MENAFN- The Peninsula) DOHA: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will open eight new mosques, with a capacity of more than 6,000 worshippers, across Doha soon. The new mosques are in Leabaib, Al Hetmi Old, Al Nasr, Msheireb, Al Sakhama, New Al Ghanim and Umm Ghuwailina.

The biggest one is in Al Hetmi and can accommodate 3,000 worshippers. The capacity of most of the mosques ranges between 500 and 600 worshipers. Some are smaller and can accommodate 200 to 300 people. All new mosques include chapels for women and houses for Imams, Qatar News Agency reports. The Mosques Department of the Ministry takes into account the requirements of green and sustainable buildings, rationalising the use of electricity and water, and preserving heritage aesthetics in designs for the mosques, reflecting the authenticity of the Qatari and Islamic heritage according to the highest standards.
