Iraq asks Int. aid groups to support displaced persons in Fallujah


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, May 29 (KUNA) -- Iraq Sunday urged international aid organizations to support people displaced as a result of Iraqi army's offensive against so-called Islamic State (IS) in Fallujah.

Saad Al-Hudaithi, a spokesman for the prime minister's office, said in a press briefing the government's priority is to protect civilians and provide the displaced persons with safe passages out of Fallujah, which witnessed severe battles to free it from IS.

Meanwhile, concerned authorities are providing the displaced with shelters and humanitarian aid, in a number of areas in Fallujah.

Furthermore, Iraq expects an exodus from Fallujah in the near future in conjunction with freeing the city from IS. (end) ahh.mys
