IMF to grant Suriname USD478m loan

(MENAFN) The International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved an economic program for the South American nation of Suriname to support the government's economic reform program.

According to the IMF, a loan of nearly USD478 million will be injected to the S. American Republic in a 24-month term while the immediate disbursement will be a total of USD81 million.

Suriname has been hit heavily by plunges in the prices of oil and gold on international markets, which are its main exports, and the closure of alumina refinery facilities only worsened things.

In more detail, the reform program called home-grown aims to deal with the decline in the prices of top commodity exports, restore confidence, and pave the way for economic recovery.
