(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, May 28 (KUNA) -- Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmad Al Khalifa called on the Arab countries to coordinate their stances towards the French initiative for peace in the Middle East.
In his address to the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council, held on the foreign-minister level on Saturday, Al Khalifa expressed hope that the French initiative will receive the necessary backing from all concerned parties "in order to create new reality in the region and open new chapter in its history." He noted that the current meeting is discussing, inter alia, the agenda of the coming Arab summit, due to take place in Nouakchott, capital of Mauritania.
"For the coming summit to contribute to Arab unity and joint action there must be good preparation and firm stances against the attempts of hostile forces to intervene in the domestic affairs of the Arab countries," he stressed.
Regarding Yemen, the Bahraini minister urged the belligerent parties to seize the historic opportunity provided by the current UN-sponsored peace talks in Kuwait, commit themselves to the ceasefire agreement and put Yemen's national interests above their own ones.
He lauded the efforts being made by the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed to realize the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security, stability and prosperity.
On Libya Al Khalifa called for a unified Arab stance to help the Libyan people overcome the challenges of the current delicate stage and maintain the country's unity and stability.
He called for scaling up the support for the Government of National Accord, led by Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj to enable them rebuild the state institutions and put an end to the acts of violence in the country. (end) mfm.asm.gb
