Seven Iraqi troops killed north of Baghdad


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Six Iraqi army and police personnel were killed Thursday in an attack north of Baghdad, a police officer said.

Major General Nadir al-Janabi told Anadolu Agency that a joint force from the army and police were attacked by a sniper while searching a home in Basatin al-Tarmia district, located around 29 kilometers (18 miles) north of Baghdad.

Sniper fire resulted in the death of a police captain and another policeman.

Al-Janabi said that three other soldiers were killed a few minutes later by two improvised bombs that were planted near the home.

Meanwhile, an improvised bomb targeting a police patrol went off in al-Moshahada sub-district in al-Tarmia, leaving two policemen dead and four others injured.

According to Iraqi security forces, the Daesh terrorist group has hideouts in Basatin al-Tarmia, which it uses to launch attacks on nearby areas, including central Baghdad.
