Foxconn terminates 60k jobs in favor of robots

(MENAFN) Foxconn, the biggest contract electronics manufacturer in the world, says it has automated away 60,000 jobs in one of its factories, based on the latest reports.

The cuts are part of an ongoing process to replace humans responsible for many of the manufacturing tasks associated with the behemoth's operations with robots.

Automation is fast drawing world's biggest firms, which are finding the falling costs of buying robots and programming it to be more attractive than retaining human labor.

"We are applying robotics engineering and other innovative manufacturing technologies to replace repetitive tasks previously done by employees," said a Foxconn top official.
