Jump in passenger traffic at Muscat, Salalah airports

Passenger traffic at Muscat and Salalah airports has witnessed a big jump in the first four months of 2016 compared to the same period of 2015, according to the latest bulletin released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

Muscat airport recorded a 19.5 per cent rise in the number of passengers (international and domestic) at 4.19mn in the first four months compared to 3.23mn in the same period last year. The number of flights (international and domestic) grew by 10.8 per cent to touch 32,938 compared to 29,732 last year. International passengers increased 20.4 per cent to reach 3.56mn compared to last year's 2.96mn, while domestic passenger volume shot up by 9.6 per cent to reach 297,321 compared to 271,280 in 2015.

International arrivals rose 21.3 per cent to nearly 1.82mn, while the number of departures went up by 20.5 per cent to 1.74mn during the four-month period. Domestic passenger count(arrivals and departures) logged 9.6 per cent growth to 297,321 compared to 271,280 last year. The report indicates a 14.4 per cent rise in the number of international landings and take-offs at 30,007 compared to 26,241 recorded last year.

Passenger traffic at the Salalah Airport grew by 16 per cent during the first four months of this year to touch 336,104 compared to 288,715.

International flights increased 12.9 per cent to 1,264 while domestic ones decreased 14.7 per cent to 1,587 during the period. Meanwhile, international passenger count at the airport reported a growth of 27.6 per cent to 127,313.
