Myanmar trusts tourism industry will save economy


(MENAFN) Myanmar is forecasting good prospects in tourism industry in 2016, with increasing number of tourists to be expected during the year, as tourists arrivals are expected to hit 5 million by May-2016 from 2015's 4.2 million.

Additionally, the Southeast Asian country attracted USD2.64 billion overseas investment in 47 schemes in the sector of hotels and tourism in 2015, up USD1.5 billion from 2011's USD1.14 billion in a total of 36 projects.

Furthermore, of the overall foreign investment in the segment in the previous year, Singapore accounted for USD1.47 billion, the highest among all countries and regions, followed by Vietnam with USD440 million.

The numbers of tourism firms have increased to 1,922 now from 1,670 in 2014, plus hotels are also sprouting up across the nation to give adequate accommodation to the increasing number of tourists.
