(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, May 26 (KUNA) -- Britain Representative to the UN urged the Yemeni parties to stay in the negotiating table and to reach a final agreement in order to give the people of Yemen the most "stable and prosperous" future they desperately deserve.
Speaking to the press prior the video-teleconference briefing by the UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed before the Security Council, the British Ambassador to the UN Matthew Rycroft affirmed that the peace talks are in a "delicate stage." He then underlined the importance of the peace talks being "Yemeni led and UN facilitated," commending the role played by regional and international players.
Ambassador Rycroft told the press that the parties are to "to compromise where necessary to forge the consensus that allows the country to become stable again." Behind closed doors, Ould Cheikh updated the Council on the progress of the talks taking place in Kuwait, and his latest meetings with the Government of Yemen delegation.
The Deputy spokesperson for the Secretary General Farhan Haq told reporters that the Special Envoy said following the meetings, that they are moving towards a general understanding that encompasses the expectations and visions of the parties.
"He said that he is now working on overcoming various obstacles and addressing the specific details of an implementation mechanism," he added.
Ould Cheikh from Kuwait said that the discussions are "complex and difficult," but bring all closer to a comprehensive agreement. (end) mao.hb
