Morocco- Moroccan Minister Calls For Declaring Violent Students' Fractions 'Terrorist Groups'

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Lahcen DaoudiMinister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Traininghas recently called to consider students organizations that commit violence in universities as “terrorist groups.”

The Minister's statement comes only a few days after the outrage caused by the humiliating act against Shaima, a student at Moulay Ismail University in Meknes who had her eyebrows and her hair forcibly cut by radical leftist students.

In his speech on Wednesday in Rabat at the “National Forum for University Governance,” Daoudi stressed that the “Moroccan university is moving forward for achieving quality,” but it is still home to some cases of violenceespecially in Meknes, Fez, Tetouan, and Ouajda.

While the minister denounced violence in the university,he expressed solidarity with the victims of university violence. At the same time, he congratulated those “who defend these institutions, including deans, administrators, professors, and students who attend their courses for the sole aim of learning in tranquility.”

The minister accused some 'students groups, who were trained outside the university, that want to destabilize these institutions,” stressing the need to 'eradicate these factions and declare them terrorist organizations because they are terrorizing everyone.”

Daoudi added that the government cannot remain 'indifferent to this issue.'

After the Meknes student, who works in the University cafeteria, was subject to the worst and ugliest form of abuse, many political and human rights activists condemned the escalation of violence in Moroccan universities. In January, two students were killed in Marrakech and Agadir during clashes between Amazigh and Sahraoui students. Previously, in April 2014, a student was stabbed to death at the Fez Faculty of Science by a group of students.
