Kuwaiti FM hopes results of Istanbul Summit boon for humanity

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, May 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah hoped on Tuesday that the results of the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul find their way to alleviate the burdens of the destitute, impoverished, and indigent people in the world.

In a statement to KUNA and to state-run Kuwait TV, the foreign minister said that participation of Kuwait's Amir His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in the Summit was warranted due to his stature as a World Humanitarian Leader.

The minister further said that the speech delivered by His Highness the Amir in front of the Summit embodied the principles defined by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, which are incumbent on the international community and civil society to implement in order to assuage the onuses and hardships on the world's indigent and deprived.

These principles pivot on the responsibility of political leaderships to prevent conflicts and wars, to try to eradicate poverty and deprivation, to invest in human resources, and to apply humanitarian criteria in dealing with the populace, said the foreign minister.

He added that Kuwait took part in a round table seminar, held on the sideline of the Summit, on means of investing in the human potential for survival and success and the role financing and funding play in helping to achieve that survival and success.

The outcomes of the seminar feed into forming concepts by the international community and civil society in dealing with humanitarian crises, conflicts, and wars, he said.

He thanked Turkey for hosting the World Humanitarian Summit and the UN for assisting to organize it.

The foreign minister visited an exhibition, set up on the sideline of the Summit, where the Kuwaiti section in it displayed the charitable work and achievements of major Kuwaiti charities, among them Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Al-Rahma International Charity, an affiliate of Kuwait's Al-Islah Society (Society for Social Reform), Islamic Revival Society, Kuwait Humanitarian Center, Sheikh Abdullah Al- Nouri Charitable Society, and Kuwait Fund For Arab Economic Development.
