Japan's preparations for Panama metro line goes smoothly

(MENAFN) Japan prepares to help Panama develop its metro system which currently links Los Andes County with the capital's center; hence the contract was inked and all the arrangements are progressing as intended.

Accordingly, the scheme consists of building a new 27km line called Line 3; its cost is estimated at USD2 billion and will start operations in 2022, all above ground, it'll cross the Panama Canal and have 14 stations.

The current Panama Metro system was built to relieve the traffic congestion between the city and San Miguelito District, and to offer commuters a viable alternative to the struggling Metrobus system.

The Panama Metro is part of a major National Master Plan to improve transportation in Panama City and the west side of the country, which includes the construction of two more metro lines and a light rail line.
