Doha: El Jaish’s star striker Romarinho has been named the Toyota Player of the Week for the Round of 16 first leg of the AFC Champions League.

The elegant Brazilian striker netted a brace as the side from Qatar inflicted a heavy 4-0 defeat on their compatriots Lekhwiya in Doha.

Romarinho and Abderazzaq Hamedallah scored in the first half before a strike from Mohamed Methnani and Romarinho’s second after the interval put the result beyond any doubt as El Jaish avenged their loss to Lekhwiya in the semi-finals of the Emir’s Cup last week.

The two clubs will meet again next Wednesday with Lekhwiya needing to score at least four goals to harbour any hope of reaching the quarter-finals for the second time in the club’s history.

Romarinho also picked up an assist, completed 38 of 47 passes attempted and won five duels to attract a rating of 9.3 to top the standings ahead of Al Nasr’s Salem Saleh and three of his team-mates in the form of Methnani, Hamedallah and Sardor Rashidov.

United Arab Emirates international Saleh also netted a brace this week to attract a rating of 8.3 as Al Nasr defeated Iran’s Tractorsazi Tabriz 4-1 in Dubai to give the Emirati side a distinct advantage when the sides meet again in Tabriz next week.

Saleh also completed 18 of 20 passes attempted, while also winning five duels. As well as scoring against Lekhwiya, Tunisian midfielder Methani completed 35 of 43 passes and won four duels to also attract a 8.3 rating.

Moroccan forward Hamedallah, meanwhile, scored while also completing 23 of 29 passes and winning four duels to attract a 7.8 rating, while team-mate and Uzbekistan international Rashidov was just behind with a 7.5 rating after recording an assist, completing seven of 11 passes, and winning four duels.

FC Tokyo midfielder Kota Mizunuma, who scored twice in the 2-1 win over Shanghai SIPG in Japan, narrowly missed out on the top five after his performance this week earned a rating of 7.3 as the player also completed 19 of 34 passes and won one duel. The Peninsula
