Turkish soldier martyred after clashes in Sirnak


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A Turkish soldier fell martyr Monday due to injuries sustained in clashes with the terrorist group PKK duringoperations in Turkey's southeastern province of Sirnak.

The Turkish General Staff released a statement after the soldier fell martyroffering condolences to the soldier's family, members of the Turkish Armed Forces, and the Turkish nation.

"Our comrade was critically injured on May 12 and immediately taken to hospital, but became a martyr despite all efforts early Monday," the statement said.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 450 members of the security forces, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and over 4,500 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
