(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has said Qatar sticks to the principle of settling disputes through peaceful means and through mediation, in accordance with international law and principles of justice.
Addressing the opening session of 16th Doha Forum on Saturday, he said this policy comes out of the firm conviction of Qatar under the wise leadership of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, renouncing the use of force and methods of pressure and coercion.
He explained that the continued support of the Emir to this Forum has made it one of the most important forums that are looking deeply into the various developments, changes, and contribute to the awareness about the challenges and crises facing the region and work to establish security and stability.
He said the achievement of security faces serious challenges in many regions of the world most notably the armed conflict, the growing of phenomenon of terrorism and extremism, issues of poverty and unemployment, in addition to the increasing number- of refugees.
He said some factors like continuation of the Security Council’s selectivity in addressing issues and using force for solving problems have doubled the damage caused by these challenges. It is important to follow the rules of international law and the Charter of the United Nations to realize principles of justice, he added.
Sheikh Mohamed stressed that oppression, tyranny and double standards and the violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms are a threat to human security , explaining that the best way to address these issues is political and social dialogue. He said the main threat to security and stability, is the continuation of the Israeli occupation without international community accountability.The Peninsula
