UAE- 7,000 illegals held in Sharjah this year


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police have arrested 6,698 illegals - including beggars and mobile vendors - in the first five months of this year.

Lt. Col. Salim Heraimil, Director of the Illegals follow-up section, said 271 inspection campaigns were conducted targeting illegals. The total number included 4,046 males and 1,652 females. Among them were also 80 individuals wanted by various police departments across the UAE.

Sharjah Police said they will continue the inspection campaigns in coordination with the authorities concerned to further curb the negative phenomenon which distorts the image of the city.

The illegals were arrested following various activities which include begging, mobile fending and washing cars.

He said with the approaching of the holy month of Ramadan there will be an increase of begging, and urged the public to cooperate with the police by reporting illegal activities and beggars by calling 800151 or 065632222.
