Under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the 2016 JIES was held on 16 and 17 May, at the Four Seasons Hotel Amman, and attended by senior Jordanian officials as well as Minister-led delegations from Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Palestine and Saudi Arabia. The Summit was established two years ago by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources as a platform for business, aiming to support the energy industry and its key players by addressing the key issues facing the sector. This year's Summit gathered international ministers, major company representatives and industry experts, facilitating an exchange of ideas on the development of new business in the fields of energy, mineral resources, electricity, oil, geology and mining. During the Summit, Executive Manager of Assets at CEGCO, Eng. Maher Tubaishat, delivered a presentation on CEGCO's evolution and management of change, highlighting opportunities for growth and development within the local energy sector. Additionally, ACWA Power Business Development Director, Alexandre Allegue, addressed, in his presentation, ACWA Power's presence in Jordan, highlighting its investments in the Kingdom, including CEGCO, and the importance of the local market to international investors. Meanwhile, several Jordanian ministers offered updates on future projects to be carried out in the Kingdom, including a USD 350 billion investment into renewable energy projects, a USD 18 billion pipeline project and a USD 10 billion nuclear power project, among others. "It has been a privilege to contribute to the success of the 2016 JIES, which has fostered a dynamic discussion on the status of Jordan's energy sector and highlighted the various business and investment opportunities with the potential to transform the Kingdom into a key player within the regional energy industry," said CEGCO Acting CEO, Nadeem Rizvi. "As Jordan's principal power generator, we at CEGCO have a vested interest in the prosperity and development of the Kingdom's energy sector, which we continue to pursue with the support of our partners and investors."
