KUWAIT, 22nd May, 2016 (WAM) -- The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, has urged the parties in Yemen to seize the chance provided Saturday by the government decision to resume the peace talks.

The Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, quoted the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, following a meeting in Doha earlier hosted by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Yemeni President Abd-Rabbuh Mansur Hadi on the sidelines of the 16th Doha Forum, as saying, "All parties need to work together for the security and stability of Yemen, and double their efforts to reach a political settlement to the conflict."

Cheikh Ahmed stressed that President Hadi agreed during the meeting that his government delegation will resume participation in the peace talks, being hosted by Kuwait, after receiving guarantees on the applicability of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216 to all parties.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the international community to help Yemen overcome the current challenging stage and reach a peaceful solution to the crisis.

"The international community offers unprecedented support to Yemen which provides a historic opportunity for the Yemenis to bring their country out of turmoil," he said.

Cheikh Ahmed thanked President Hadi for his cooperation with the UN, and appreciated the efforts made by Kuwait and Qatar to advance the UN-brokered talks.
